Testimonial-Michelle

I have been a member of 24 hr fitness for 9 years and would go every once in a while with no results. When I would walk in, I had no idea what to do. I even got a personal trainer and he gave me a list of exercises to do every day. It got old and boring after two weeks. I bought into many get thin quick pills, diets and exercise equipment.

In December 2008, I became acquainted with Crossfit Brea. I started training there without any real commitment. I liked their way of training, but I started making excuses for why it was too hard for me to get there consistently. Nevertheless, every time I made the effort to come, I really enjoyed their training.

I was “too busy” with work during tax season, so I did not come back until the middle of May. It was then, that I made the serious commitment to improving my health. The training that Crossfit offers and the motivation they give you to not only exercise, but to eat a well balanced diet, made all the difference in my life.

The training at Crossfit is intense! It changes from day to day. You never know what type of workout to expect when you walk in. You can, however, expect to work hard, and to get results. You can expect to be surrounded by trainers who know what they are doing, who have your best interest, who won’t let you get hurt, and are aware of every single person in that class. You can expect to see people who I consider friends.

I’m not saying that results came over night. I had to make the decision to change my life. I had to put in hours of hard work, consistently. Crossfit provided the tools that I needed to make the changes to produce the results that I wanted.

In May, I wore a size 12. It is now September and I just bought a pair of jeans size 4! Crossfit worked for me, I’m sure it will work for anyone willing to put in the time and effort.

Testimonial - Duane

I am a 46-year-old male who sits at a desk during the day and found myself slowly gaining around the waist (even though I inherited tall, thin genes). Even though I had run 2 marathons and several 5/10ks and tried to stay moderately active, I struggled with some recurring overuse injuries from running and felt like my overall condition was weak. I had a 24-hour pass, but rarely used it due to no workout partner and no real plan for a “program”. One day I ran into a high school kid I who I hadn’t seen in about 6 months. He was “buffed” and lean. When I asked him what he had been up to he said two things – “CrossFit games” and “Paleo”. I didn’t know what either one of those terms meant so the next day I googled them and found out. I stumbled upon a CrossFit YouTube video of ten housewives doing rounds of squats and pull-ups. I thought to myself, “If they can do that – I can do that”. Then I found CrossFit Brea and came in to check it out. I watched a “WOD” and met some of the people. It seemed like a real tight knit group of people who were interested in getting fit, and supporting each other. I decided right then and there to join. The second week into it they had a guy come in and give a seminar about “Paleo/Zone” diet. The very next day I started on the “Paleo” diet. I completely changed my eating habits in one day – and haven’t looked back. Through the combination of eating right and doing the WOD’s (Workout Of the Day) I shed 8 pounds of FAT in two weeks! I’ve since dropped another 2 pounds (2 more weeks) and have probably leveled off to the point that I will continue to lower my body fat percentage, but will build muscle from the strength and conditioning. Even though I can’t lift much weight yet, or do some of the movements with perfect form, I’m looking out a year from now and know that I will be just amazed at my body transformation and the weight I will be lifting. Everything about CrossFit and the Paleo diet makes sense, and fits into everything I have read and knew to be correct – I just didn’t know how (or care enough) to put the concepts into practice. CrossFit Brea is exactly what I was looking for. I don’t have to plan anything – just show up and do the WOD with my fellow CrossFitters led by a trainer – and the workouts are only 1 hour long!! This is by far the best thing I have ever done for myself. It is truly a life changer!

A Testimonial (of sorts)-

While huddled on my knees in a pool of mixed sweat (mine and Slappy's), gasping for air, I thought "Here's my testimonial to Erik" as I grabbed my anatomy.

I suppose I represent the senior demographic for CrossFit Brea. With a fused neck from a car accident, cracked meniscus, and partially torn ACL in my right knee-skiing one powdery day in Utah.

I have memberships at the local 24 Hour Fitness for spin classes and the Brea Community Center for pilates.

For those with similar circumstances, I thought you might want to know what to expect with your experience at Crossfit Brea.

My first visits there were spent flipping tires, wiggling ropes and swinging sledgehammers... surrounded by young athletes. This was the Virtus era, and I felt like a fish out of water.

Since then, I have noted a change, not only to the gym, but also with myself---

Thanks to Erik, Darlene, Derek and Matt, I now know what it is like to live in constant pain. This is great preparation for the infirmaries of my pending senior years.

I sleep better and watch less TV... my sofa is thankful.

I have forgotten what a carbonated beverage tastes like, and the KFC drive through is a distant memory.

My shirts are tighter through the shoulders and chest.

I cannot hear the name "Helen" without my stomach tightening and experiencing a feeling of dread.

I enjoy the deep discounts of buying Motrin in jumbo quart-size quantities.

I have stress-tested every part of my body, including my liver due to "Taco Nights"

I have avoided blood pressure and cholesterol medications

I am less bothered by nitwits and politicians.

True story...
Several months ago, I went to a medical conference at the Anaheim Convention Center. GE was demonstrating a machine to measure your BMI, but the lines were very long. As I was leaving, I noted the line was now short, so I took the test. The operator looked puzzled, and when I asked him what was wrong, he said I had the most muscle mass he had seen in three days of testing.

Bottom line I guess is that fitness comes in all shapes and sizes and what counts is the core.

At Crossfit Brea, you will find a strong core of good people.
